Several
species of tickseed, perennials in the aster family grow in various parts
of Florida in either damp or dry soils and flowernig at different seasons.
They need full sun to flower well. One, C. nudata or swamp coreopsis,
a wetland plant of nothern Florida, has pink rays and a bright yellow center
and is a particulariy attractive flowering plant for a wild garden. Coreopsis
reseed readily, are simple to grow, and may be used as cut flowers. They also
are nectar plants for butterflies.
